For the longest time I’ve been using one of those standard stainless steel jiggers for measuring my pours. You know the one: double-ended, one ounce on one side and an ounce and a half on the other. It was simple, and it did the trick for most drinks, even if it took a little eyeballing to get 1/2 our 3/4 ounce measures. But I finally decided I needed something a little nicer.
I know a lot of people swear by the OXO Good Grips measuring cup. They’re cheap, easy to use, and have any measure you may need. And I understand the killer feature is the angled face inside the glass, which lets you measure your pour while looking down from above, instead of holding the glass at eye level when pouring. I remembered about these on a recent trip to Sur la Table and decided it was finally time to update my own measuring glass, and this was the first one to come to mind. I didn’t much care for the feel of it, being plastic and all, and it doesn’t look great. But it’s the functionality I’m after, and besides, at $4 you can’t go wrong, right?
But then I saw this whimsical number:

The measures on this glass may not be as precise as the OXO cup, and I still have to hold it up to get a perfectly accurate measure, but that’s a small price to pay. This one is nice heavy glass, was the same price as the OXO, and it looks a hell of a lot better. I immediately knew this was the one to get. I have no idea who it’s made by, and I can’t find it on the Sur la Table web site, so you may have to make a trip to your local store to pick one up.

You CAN get the OXOs in stainless steel… much nicer than the plastic ones (which I gave away to my folks and brother!)

Nice, thanks for the tip. I think I’ll pick up one of those as well.
