Vieux Carré
- 3/4 oz Cognac
- 3/4 oz rye
- 3/4 oz sweet vermouth
- 1/4 oz Benedictine
- 1 dash Peychaud’s Bitters
- 1 dash Angostura Bitters
Combine ingredients in an ice-filled mixing glass and stir until cold. Strain over ice into a rocks glass and garnish with a lemon zest.
Like the La Louisiane, you want to be careful with the Benedictine in your Vieux Carré. A little bit goes a long way, and you risk making your drink sickly sweet if you overpour. This one uses much less Benedictine than the La Louisiane, so it’s a bit easier here.
I’m having this fine cocktail to celebrate Cocktail Camp PDX tomorrow, and also to relax after a day of last minute preparations. We spent a few hours this evening getting things set up and we’re all set for tomorrow. It’s going to be a great time and I’m hoping to meet lots of interesting people, so be sure to say hi if you’ll be there.
