Anvil’s drinks list6

Anvil, a bar in Houston, Texas that prides itself on its well made cocktails, has compiled a list of 100 cocktails that they believe everyone should try at least once. Paper copies are available in the bar, as are stamp cards so patrons can keep track of their progress. Fun idea, and I’m sure it’s great for business.

Anvil's drinks list

The list is headed with “We at Anvil would be remiss in our duties if we did not mention that there are certain libations we feel you should try at least once in your life… for better or worse”. Then follows the list. Click the thumbnail for a larger view.

I thought I was pretty well traveled in the cocktail world but, at the time of this writing (Oct 16, 2009), I haven’t even had 50 of these. Looks like I had better get busy. I’ll keep this list updated as I work on it.

we’ve got quite a few of those that you haven’t tried yet! Come in and say hello. I cocktail every friday & saturday starting at 5pm. Our vegan/veggie options are limited, but there is the amazing spatzle — like fancy mac & chz….

Hey, I’ve been to Victory a number of times, I live just about a mile from you. I’ve even had the spaetzle!

I usually go out during the week, preferring the less crowded evenings, but I’ll stop by some Friday or Saturday night soon.

I finally got the chance to hit Anvil. While the menu was nice, the atmosphere was really a turn off. Very loud music just seemed to echo throughout the entire place. I have never been to a bar specializing in classic cocktails where bartenders had this much attitude. I felt like i was at a club vs a bar.

Hm, that’s a shame. Hopefully that isn’t typical.

I disagree completely with Pat. I’ve been going there all week working on the list in a competition with a friend. All of the bartenders have been very friendly and if there has been music playing I didn’t notice it at all. Give it another shot.

That’s good to hear. Nothing will ruin a great bar like poor service and atmosphere. For what it’s worth, I haven’t heard anyone else voice those complaints.
