The Darb Cocktail
* 3/4 ounce gin
* 3/4 ounce dry vermouth
* 3/4 ounce apricot brandy
* 1/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
Shake all ingredients in an ice-filled shaker and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon zest.
The Darb is yet another cocktail that originated in The Savoy Cocktail Book but, unlike many of the recipes found therein, this one stands up very well with the original proportions. Often, recipes that old need to be updated, as their original form is much too sweet for the modern palate. This one is taken as-is and actually works quite well. The apricot brandy blends well with the herbal flavors in the gin, and brings in a little sweetness, while not overpowering the overall dryness of the cocktail. The lemon finishes it off nicely.
